QS World University Rankings 2021: Two IITs in top 200
The QS World University Ranking has released the list of world's top universities 2021. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has been named as the top most institute in India. IISc has been named as India’s best research university.
The QS World University Rankings has announced the rankings for the world's top universities for 2021. Only eight educational Institutes have made it to the top 500 of QS World University Ranking 2021.
There are 47 new entries this year's top 1,000 while over 5,000 Universities were evaluated and considered for evaluation.
As per the QS World University Ranking 2021, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is top most institute in India. IIT Bombay has been placed at 152nd rank in 2020 rankings and has slipped to 172nd ranking this year.
Apart from IIT Bombay, other institutes that have made it to the top 500 include Indian Institute of Science at 185th rank, IIT Delhi at 193rd rank, IIT Madras at 275th rank, IIT Kharagpur at 314th rank, IIT Kanpur at 350th rank, IIT Roorkee at 383rd rank, and IIT Guwahati at 470th rank.
The QS University Rankings are based on eight indicators; academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, staff with a PhD, papers per faculty, citations per paper, international faculty and international students.
This year, only 21 Indian higher education universities and institutes have found a place in the world’s top 1,000 rankings. As per the QS World University Rankings, India’s best research university is IISc Bangalore, which received a perfect 100/100 on the ‘citations per faculty’ indicator.
Delhi University is placed in the 501-510 bracket. IIT Hyderabad is among the top 650 institutes in the world.
Jadavpur University, Savitribai Phule Pune University and the University of Hyderabad are ranked among top 700 (651-700 bracket).
Institutes from the United States and the United Kingdom and one from Switzerland (ETH Zurich-Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at rank six) dominated the top 10 spots.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the United States took the number one spot, followed by Stanford University and Harvard University taking the second and third ranks. California Institute of Technology took the fourth spot while the UK's Oxford University took fifth place in the ranking.
