RGUKT student hangs himself to death in hostel room
The police said the deceased identified as M Ramunaidu was a resident of Damarasingi village of Gurla tehsil of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh and that the cause of death was yet to be ascertained.
The police said the deceased identified as M Ramunaidu, was a resident of Damarasingi village of Gurla tehsil of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh. They said the cause of death was yet to be identified. According to information, Ramunaidu had returned to the university five days ago after the Sankranti holidays. Some of his friends noticed him hanging from the ceiling and informed the RGUKT authorities, who later alerted the police who reached the spot and examined the scene.
The police said the body has been sent to the Nuzvid Government Hospital for the post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC has been registered.
Not the first incident
This is not the first such incident. In November 2021, a first-year student of RGUKT allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. He also left behind a suicide note, which stated that he was not being to focus on his studies due to personal reasons and hence took the extreme step.
The cases of suicide at premier technical institutions in the country has been on the rise and according to the data shared by the Education Ministry, a total of 122 students of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), central universities and other centrally funded higher educational institutions committed suicide during 2014-21.
