To bridge the gap between academia and industry, Volvo Group India hosted the ‘Yukti’ STEM education workshop at Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO, Bangalore, inspiring young girls to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The workshop saw participation from over 240 students from Grades VIII and IX. The event was graced by Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India, and Radhika Nair, Head of People & Culture at Volvo Group India. In his keynote address, he emphasized the company’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of women in STEM.

Led by a team of dedicated Volvo Group India volunteers, the workshop offered hands-on learning experiences to ignite curiosity and inspire young girls to confidently explore STEM careers. By providing practical exposure and real-world applications, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering the next generation of women leaders in technology and engineering.

Immersive Learning Through Virtual Reality

During the workshop, students participated in a range of immersive activities designed to engage and inspire. The Virtual Reality (VR) experience offered a chance to explore Volvo’s advanced technologies, including a realistic driving simulator. In the Engines and Problem-Solving session, participants interacted with miniature engines, applied data science concepts, and solved STEM-based puzzles to enhance their analytical skills. A session on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision introduced students to groundbreaking applications in the automotive industry, while the Robotics workshop allowed them to design, build, and program robots using the same cutting-edge technologies found in Volvo’s trucks.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director, Volvo Group India, said “Through initiatives like Yukti, we are taking a significant step toward shaping the future of our industry by inspiring young girls to explore careers in STEM. By working closely with educational institutions, we not only provide students with practical exposure to advanced technologies but also gain access to a diverse pool of talent that will be crucial in driving innovation and growth. This partnership reflects our ongoing dedication to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills needed to excel in the fast-evolving fields of technology and engineering.”

Radhika Nair, Head of People & Culture at Volvo Group India, emphasized, “As part of Volvo Group's commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, we aim to inspire young girls in India to break barriers and pursue careers in STEM, shaping the next generation of technology leaders. Through programmes like Yukti, we strive to cultivate an agile and innovative workforce poised to achieve strategic goals in an ever-evolving industrial landscape.”
