Five private medical colleges in Telangana gets NMC notice for poor infrastructure
National Medical Commission (NMC) has sent show-cause notices to five private medical colleges in Telangana after finding poor infrastructure during the inspection.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has inspected five private medical colleges in Telangana and found poor infrastructure in them and a lack of availability of doctors and their ability to teach students. The commission has sent these colleges show-cause notices and action will be started after these institutes submit their replies.
While NMC has not revealed the name of these colleges, it said that out of these five, two are new colleges, as reported by TOI.
"In the surprise inspections we did over a week back, irregularities were found in all of them. Two did not have the required strength of professors, while all the five lacked basic infrastructure and laboratories. Also, they did not have the required student strength to be declared fit for the courses," said the NMC member.
Health Ministry's team inspects 12 private medical colleges, found lapses
Recently, an inquiry committee of 3-6 doctors carried out surprise inspections of 12 private medical colleges in five cities across the country. The inspecting team found several lapses during the inspection. The deficiencies included infrastructure lapses, the mismatch between the number of faculties on paper and in reality, fewer patients than required to run a medical college.
It is being observed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, formalities for granting approval and recognition to some colleges were done through video conferencing and after which the health ministry was receiving several complaints.
