Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) has asked two law colleges affiliated with Mumbai University to refund the excess fees charged.

As per reports emerging, two law colleges affiliated with Mumbai University have been asked by Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) to refund the excess money charged. These two colleges are MKES Law College, Malad and MS College of Law, Mumbra.

MS College of Law, Mumbra has reportedly charged INR 7000 more than the fees fixed by FRA from students admitted to the three-year LLB program of 2018-19 batch and MKES Law College was charging almost double of the fixed fees.

As per the TOI report, MKES Law College in Malad was charging INR 28,000 from students seeking admission to the 2021-22 batch when the fees were fixed at INR 16,000. A law aspirant had complained to FRA that the college has refused to admit him at the fees fixed by the authority. However, after receiving the notice from the authority, the college agreed to refund the extra amount in four weeks. The college is now not overcharging any student and also refunding the money to the students who were charged more earlier. The college has also accepted their mistake.

For MS College of Law, Mumbra, FRA had fixed fees at INR 20,000 but it was charging INR 27,000 from students admitted to the three-year LLB program in the year 2018-19 for the entire course duration.

The college is refunding the excess amount charged since October 2021 and so far only 25 out of 99 students have received the refund cheques. FRA has observed that there is a delay in the refund processing, the college has sought time till March 31 and FRA has asked for a compliance report by March 10.
