GB Pant Hospital: Nurses protest over corruption

Scores of nurses of GB Pant Hospital have protested on the facility's premises and alleged that several administration staff were involved in corruption and other irregularities.

The matter was taken up with the authorities said Liladhar Ramchandani, president of the hospital’s nurse association and secretary-general of the Delhi Nurses Federation but they did nothing and instead relived four nurses including three nursing officers and an officiating nursing superintendent from duty, as reported by Indian Express.

“In view of the allegations and ongoing inquiry, the following nursing officials of Delhi GB Pant are hereby relieved of their duties and ordered to proceed on leave immediately. Further, these officials shall make themselves available for enquiry as and when called,” said the order issued against these nurses.

Action taken against the complainants, says protesting nurses

The nurses union has said that two of the nursing officers who were relieved from duty were the complainants in the case, and action has been taken against the people who raised voices against corruption. “We had no option left but to protest,” Ramchandani said.

"How can they relieve the complainants who raised the issue of corruption? Such action from the hospital administration shows that they want to shut down everyone who raises their voice against corruption and mismanagement. This is highly unacceptable, and all four unions strongly condemn the order,” said Liladhar Ramchandani.

“Our demand is that the medical director should be removed. The protest is against several instances of corruption and other irregularities," Ramchandani added.
