Govt considers de-recognising Pakistani medical degrees for appearing in FMGE

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is the mandatory examination for the students who completed their medical education in foreign countries and now want to practice medicine in India. As per reports, the government is examining a proposal to not recognise Pakistani medical degrees for appearing in FMGE.

The officials have said that the move followed several rounds of deliberations among various stakeholders including union home ministry, external affairs ministry, and National Medical Commission officials, as reported by Economic Times.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education have recently said that students holding Pakistani degrees won't be eligible for higher education in India. UGC and AICTE notice reads, "Any Indian national or overseas citizen of India who intends to take admission in any degree college or educational institution of Pakistan shall not be eligible for seeking employment or higher studies in India."
