After the NMC asked about the Health Ministry's view on framing a scheme to allow Ukraine returned medical students to continue their studies in India, the discussions are underway at the ministry.

Govt, NMC discuss to frame policy for Ukraine returned medical students

Supreme Court recently directed National Medical Commission (NMC) to make a scheme to accommodate Ukraine returned medical students to Indian medical colleges. After which NMC sought Health Ministry's view on that and now reportedly discussions are going on in the ministry to frame a policy to allow these medical students to complete their education in the country.

The external affairs ministry had also written to the health minister and requested to allow these students into the private medical colleges in the country as the students have faced compelling circumstances beyond their control.

Discussions are going on in Health Ministry

The court has directed NMC to frame a scheme within a two months period. At present, there are no norms in NMC regulations to accommodate Ukraine returned medical students.

''Preliminary discussions have been held over a possible framing of a policy or a scheme to enable Indian medical students affected by the Ukraine crisis and the pandemic to complete their education in colleges in the country but nothing concrete has been decided. "Though the exact number of such students is not clear estimates suggest they could be over 20,000 and accommodating such a huge number of students in between ongoing academic sessions in colleges in India is a difficult task. Deliberations are on to find a way out," said a source, as reported by Business Today.
