Govt to upgrade Raksha Shakti University as institution of national importance

On Monday, the union government introduced a bill to upgrade the Gujarat-based Raksha Shakti University as an institution of national importance. G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home, introduced the Rashtriya Raksha University Bill, 2020.

On Monday, the union government introduced a bill to upgrade the Gujarat-based Raksha Shakti University as an institution of national importance. G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home, introduced the Rashtriya Raksha University Bill, 2020. He asserted that according to a proposal, the Rashtriya Raksha University (in place of Raksha Shakti University) will be a multi-disciplinary institute to generate new knowledge through research and teamwork with different participants. The Raksha Shakti University was a state university. On the other hand, Rashtriya Raksha University will be a central institute. According to him, the aim of the bill was to announce the Rashtriya Raksha University as an institution of national importance. 

According to the bill introduced,  Rashtriya Raksha University would also assist to achieve the requirement of a pool of qualified professionals with specialised knowledge and new skill sets in several divisions of criminal justice system, policing and correctional administration. Currently, there are only limited institutions in the country that offer the infrastructure, environment, and specialisation for providing education in police sciences and internal security to meet the necessities of modern, citizen-centric policing.

The university will endorse international criteria and offer vibrant and high standards of learning and research. It would also offer a working environment devoted to the innovation and propagation of research, training, education and scholarship of the highest quality in the region of policing. This would include security, law enforcement, criminal justice, coastal policing, cybersecurity, cyber-crime, artificial intelligence and associated areas of internal security and public safety. Non-Resident Indians, Foreigners, Overseas Citizens of India cardholders, Indian origin people living in Gulf and southeast Asian countries can enroll in the university.
