GTU postpones offline exams as COVID cases rise
Gujarat Technological University Vice-Chancellor Navin Sheth said we will decide on whether to take online or offline exams after reviewing the COVID-19 situation over the next few days.
Following a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has postponed offline exams. The university had decided to conduct offline exams in January 2022, but the sudden spike in COVID cases forced the varsity to postpone offline exams.
As per a report published in The Times of India, GTU Vice-Chancellor Navin Sheth said, “We have postponed the exams because we had prepared for in-person exams and cannot simply switch to online exams at this moment. To hold online exams, we have to get students to register the devices by which they intend to take the exams. We use advanced proctoring tools for our online exams and even caught students who had engaged in unfair exam practices in our online tests.”
In the Summer 2020 semester exams, GTU caught some 20 students for exam malpractices using their online proctoring tools. They were punished with being barred from exams for one year.
“We will take a decision on whether to take online or offline exams over the next few days, after assessing the COVID situation. If the COVID situation remains bad, we will discuss online exams with our deans," Sheth said.
Meanwhile, members of a student union at GTU have requested the varsity authorities to take online exams in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
