Gujarat School Reopening: Online classes to continue until February 5 amid COVID-19 surge

The decision to continue online classes for students of grades 1 to 9 till February 5 has been taken in the larger interest of the students and their health, Gujarat government informed. 

Gujarat School Reopening: The government of Gujarat recently announced that the schools have been directed to continue online lectures for the students of Classes 1 to 9 until February 5 considering the current COVID-19 scenario. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel after conducting a meeting with the core committee in Gandhinagar regarding the COVID-19 situation announced the decision to continue the conduct of virtual classes.

The decision to continue online classes for students of grades 1 to 9 till February 5 has been taken in the larger interest of the students and their health, the press release said. On January 7, the state announced its decision to bar offline classes and continue online classes in schools for Classes 1 to 9 until January 31 following a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Stating that Gujarat has recorded, 679 COVID-19 cases on Monday, the lowest since January 10, taking the tally in the state to 11,60,659, as per the state health department. The press release informed that it is likely a fresh decision on the conduct of offline education will be taken on February 5.

Meanwhile, schools, colleges in various states across the country will be reopened from February 1. Schools in Karnataka, Tripura were reopened from January 31, while in states such as Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana, the schools will resume offline classes from February 1.

However, the government of the national capital is still mulling to reopen schools. Delhi Deputy CM has also received a petition signed by 1600 parents requesting the reopening of schools in the state. After receiving the request, the Deputy CM agreed to their demand on school reopening. However, DDMA is yet to take a decision on the same. It is likely that a discussion will take place on the same in the next meeting of DDMA.
