Gujarat government has asked the state education department to prepare SOPs to be followed by students and authorities in view of the ongoing pandemic outbreak.
Gujarat State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama has directed the state education department to prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for reopening schools and colleges across the state. The SOPs prepared by the state education department will be followed by the students and authorities in view of the pandemic outbreak.
Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama also convened an urgent meeting with the respective officials and issued orders to begin preparing the SOPs for schools and colleges.
While talking to the reporters he said, “as of now, the state government is planning to open schools from standards 9 to 12, colleges as well as universities, though a final decision on the issue is pending”.
He further said that Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had asked his department to prepare SOPs for reopening classes from standard 9 to 12.
"I had convened an urgent meeting in this regard and asked my officials to prepare SOPs. After consulting various stakeholders, we will finalise SOPs in the next 2 to 3 days," the education minister said.
The vice-chancellors of different universities and people associated with the management of schools are to be consulted by the officials through video conferencing.
"Once SOPs are prepared, CM Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, in consultation with education and health departments, will take a final decision on reopening schools and colleges,” the minister informed.
"They would also decide about opening schools for standards 1 to 8," said Chudasama. Schools, colleges and other educational institutions across Gujarat are shut since March-end in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak and the resultant lockdown. Currently, students are attending classes online. The state government earlier informed that it was mulling to reopen schools soon.
