Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said in a statement that classes will continue to be held in online mode and examinations will be held as per schedule.
In view of the Hijab controversy, the Karnataka government has extended holiday for universities belonging to the Department of Higher Education and colleges under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) till February 16, 2022. Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said in a statement that classes will continue to be held in online mode and examinations will be held as per schedule.
Closure of institutions to maintain law and order
Narayan said the DCTE had declared the closure of institutions from February 9 to February 11 in view of the hijab controversy and now it has been extended as a precautionary measure. This closure is applicable for government, aided, unaided degree colleges, diploma, and engineering colleges, he said.
The Karnataka High Court, in its interim order pending consideration of all petitions related to the hijab controversy, had earlier requested the state government to reopen educational institutions and restrained all students from wearing saffron shawls, scarves, hijab and any religious flag within the classroom.
Schools for Classes 1 to 10 to reopen from February 14
However, schools for Classes 1 to 10 will reopen from Monday, February 14, as the Karnataka High Court gave an interim order restraining students from wearing any religious garments. The Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court had earlier said colleges can reopen but students cannot wear any religious piece of clothing till the matter is pending.
