The Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HPSEB) has decided to conduct teaching sessions for the Sanskrit language for the students of Class 3 onwards and Vedic mathematics to Class 6 and above.
While conducting a press conference in Dharamshala, HPSEB chief Suresh Kumar Soni informed that students of Himachal Pradesh will be taught Sanskrit and Vedic math in schools from the next academic session.
Stating that Himachal Pradesh School Education Board will be the first-ever Board in India to introduce Sanskrit in the third standard, Soni added that training will be given to teachers accordingly by including Sanskrit and Vedic mathematics in the Diploma in Education course (D Ed).
Students of Classes 3 and 4 will be given objective-type questions for Sanskrit, and the addition of descriptive-type questions will take place only from Class 5 onwards. Sanskrit courses will be divided into three stages, which the education board of the state will be deciding soon.
For Vedic math, however, the basics will be introduced in class 6 and only a few portions will be introduced in the beginning to make sure children are not burdened with it. However, the Board has not issued any official notice or circular regarding the same.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Chief Minister of Himachal announced the closure of schools and educational institutions in the state amid the rising cases of the novel coronavirus. The official order regarding the closure of schools and colleges said, "All educational institutions (Government, Semi government or Private) which include Schools/Colleges/Universities/Academic Institutions/Engineering Polytechnic Colleges /ITIs/ Coaching Centers will remain closed up to 26.01.2022 in the state of Himachal Pradesh."
"The residential schools will also remain close for the period. All nursing and medical colleges will however remain open and will ensure observance of the Covid-19 SOPs and safety protocols issued by the health department," it further added.
