Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister Assam has reviewed the construction of 5 new medical colleges at Tamulpur, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Morigaon & Golaghat.

Last year, while announcing Assam Budget 2021, the state government announced setting up five new medical colleges in Tamulpur, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Morigaon & Golaghat at an expenditure of INR 80 crore. Now, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the construction of these medical colleges while attending a meeting with PWD (B) and construction companies L&T, Shree Gautam Construction, Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd, etc.

His tweet reads, "Held a meeting with PWD (B) and construction companies L&T, Shree Gautam Construction, Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd, etc, to review construction of 5 new medical colleges at Tamulpur, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Morigaon & Golaghat. Asked them to finish work within stipulated time."

 

In March 2022 also, a similar meeting was conducted to review the construction work of these medical colleges and the CM directed the concerned officials to speed up the construction of medical colleges, universities model degree colleges, engineering colleges, etc.

Assam targets 14 new medical colleges by 2025

After the Covid-19 pandemic waves, the state is all geared up to upgrade the healthcare infrastructure and also increasing the number of medical colleges. In line with this, the government has announced to set up 14 more medical colleges by 2025. Two more foundations of medical colleges will be laid at Karimganj and Sivasagar in 2023, and in Goalpara in the year 2024. Moreover, a cancer hospital is being constructed in every existing medical college hospital in the state.
