Hobby Hubs in Delhi government schools to train students in music and instruments

The government of Delhi has decided to set up ‘hobby hubs’ in 46 Delhi government schools. They have also been allotted individual academies or Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to impart training to students in various activities such as classical music, musical instruments and photography. The setting up of hobby hubs is taking place under a scheme called "involving private academies and individual NGOs in development of music, theatre, fine arts and crafts in schools of Directorate of Education".

Meanwhile, before the commencement of imparting training to government school students each individual academy and NGO will have to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), the scheme states.

Under the scheme, students will be trained in Indian classical music, radio jockeying, photography, theatre, public speaking, fine arts, coding, among others.

"Forty-six schools will be developed into hobby hubs and have been allotted the individual academy or NGO to impart training to the students in various categories. The permission has been granted on certain terms and conditions," a senior official of the Directorate of Education (DoE) said.

"The number of days of training, as well as time duration, will be agreed upon mutually by the academy or NGO with the school principal but it should not be less than two classes per week of at least two hours duration. One room or hall will be provided in the school premises for usage. No charges will be levied on the academy or NGO on account of the usage of the school premises," the official added.

Declaring its qualified trainer as well as an assistant trainer for a particular school to the concerned principal well in advance, before imparting training will be mandatory for NGO. No subletting, sub-leasing or outsourcing of responsibilities shall be allowed under any circumstances.
