M Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), revealed that about 200 universities nationwide including public, private, central, and deemed institutions have adopted the four-year undergraduate program following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He highlighted that while some states have mandated all their universities to introduce four-year undergraduate programs, this approach is increasingly becoming standard across the country. He also highlighted Maharashtra's leadership in NEP implementation, particularly in establishing cluster universities.

University Grants Commission Chairman M Jagdish Kumar said that the state of Maharashtra is making efforts to effectively implement the National Education Policy, and the universities in the state are also at the forefront of creating small-scale 'group universities'.

UGC Chairman was in Mumbai to attend Mumbai University's annual convocation. Over 1.51 lakh students graduated from the university this year. They were awarded degrees. Almost 53% of these students were girls. Barring the two years of the pandemic, the number of female students graduating from the university has always been higher than that of boys. State Governor Ramesh Bais emphasised the university's aim to rank among the top 10, praising the increasing number of female graduates.
