Ashoka University, ZEISS India Launches Imaging Facility to Foster Multidisciplinary Research
Equipped with cutting-edge microscopy technology, the Imaging facility will provide invaluable support for research in diverse fields, including cell biology, biophysics, soft condensed matter studies, and structural biology.
Ashoka University has launched the Ashoka-ZEISS Core Imaging Facility in collaboration with ZEISS India. The collaboration has been formalised by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ashoka’s pursuit of research excellence and ZEISS’s expertise in optical systems and optoelectronics. The imaging facility, which is equipped with cutting-edge microscopy technologies like high-resolution, super-resolution, and high-content microscopes, will continue to improve research in fields like structural biology, biophysics, cell biology, and soft condensed matter.
The ‘Ashoka-ZEISS Core Imaging Facility’ aims to promote a vigorous research ecosystem, moving Ashoka University to the forefront of scientific discovery in India and beyond.
Speaking about the collaboration, Nobel Laureate Dr. Jack Szostak talked about the collaboration and its potential outcome saying, “At its core, the ZEISS Imaging Facility represents the spirit of collaboration, bringing together the brightest minds from biology, physics, and engineering to unravel the complexities of our world. By blending state-of-the-art technology with expert support, the facility isn’t just solving scientific questions—it’s building bridges across disciplines to shape the future of innovation.”
Meanwhile, Ashok Trivedi, Founder of the Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University shared his delight about the MoU signed with ZEISS India saying “The Ashoka ZEISS Imaging Microscopy Facility is more than a collection of advanced instruments; it’s a gateway to visualizing life at its most fundamental levels, enabling discoveries that were once beyond imagination. This facility sets a new standard for imaging and microscopy by offering researchers the power to see the unseen, empowering groundbreaking work across disciplines."
Features of Imaging Facility
The Imaging facility features four advanced ZEISS microscopes: Lattice Lightsheet 7, Elyra 7 LS (Lattice SIM2), LSM 980 NLO, and Cell Discoverer 7 with LSM 900 Airyscan. With the use of these features, students and researchers will be able to learn the advanced level of imaging. For the next few years, students will be provided with the facility of usage without any cost. Further, ZEISS will provide Expert System Operators at the facility to guide researchers in effectively using the microscopes, ensuring optimal results.
