The state government will constitute a committee of experts to decide the curriculum for the first year of the new system.
From the upcoming academic session universities in Bihar will offer four-year undergraduate courses replacing three-year bachelor's courses. These courses will be offered under the choice-based credit system from the coming academic session this year.
Bihar Governor-cum-Chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar held a meeting with all the Vice Chancellors and senior officials of the Education Department regarding the commencement of four-year undergraduate studies from the session 2023-2027 on the basis of CBCS and Semester System in the universities of Bihar.
As per a statement issued by Bihar Raj Bhavan, a decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar who is also the chancellor of state universities.
At present state universities in Bihar and their constituent colleges are running three-year undergraduate degree courses.
The decision to implement four-year courses was taken during the meeting as per the recommendation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Raj Bhavan's statement mentioned that the four-year bachelor's degree courses under CBCS and the semester system will be introduced in the coming academic session (2023-27). In the first year of the introduction of the CBSC and semester system, universities will start their own admission process.
However, from the next academic session, there will be a centralised admission process and all universities will follow that only. A committee of experts will also be constituted to decide the curriculum for the first year of the new system.
