Chitkara University, UNESCO to offer courses to youth, teachers
UNESCO's Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and Chitkara University will be offering the self-directed Emotional learning for empathy and kindness (SEEK) course to youths.
Chitkara University and Chitkara International Schools sign an agreement with United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to exchange practices to implement sustainable development goals (SDGs). The aim of the agreement is to further the culture of sustainability and enhance social and emotional competencies in young people and teachers. UNESCO's Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and Chitkara University will be offering the self-directed Emotional learning for empathy and kindness (SEEK) course to youths.
The Chitkara Institutes will also be working on providing mainstream social and emotional learning for their teachers, through the SEL for schools and digital teacher courses. MGIEP, New Delhi currently is focusing on achieving sustainable development goal number 4 by working toward education to foster peaceful and sustainable societies across the world. The agreement was signed by Chitkara University, pro-chancellor, Madhu Chitkara; Chitkara International School, Chandigarh, director, Niyati Chitkara; Chitkara International Schools, associate director, Honey Chitkara and UNESCO MGIEP, senior programme officer, Ammaarah Matinus and national programme officer, Richa Bansal.
Speaking about the agreement, Chitkara University, pro-chancellor, Madhu Chitkara said: "The MoU with UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development is truly a stepping stone towards establishing greener and healthier spaces brought about by the joint endeavors of not just adults but also the dynamic children of the country. As educationists, it remains the need of the hour for us to give youngsters a platform to make a difference in their societies, and this MoU, I believe, stands to do just that.
