CUET 2023: Jamia Millia Islamia students stage protest demanding CUET for admission
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has last year introduced CUET Exam for admission to graduate and postgraduate courses in central universities across the country. However, earlier this month, the JMI announced that it will follow its own admission process. Recently, UGC has also directed the varsity to implement CUET UG from the academic session 2023-24 in all courses.
CUET 2023: A group of students staged a protest outside Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) demanding admission in all courses through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has last year introduced CUET Exam for admission to graduate and postgraduate courses in central universities across the country. However, earlier this month, the JMI announced that it will follow its own admission process.
"We are gathered here to protest against the non-adoption of CUET. When every central university has adopted it then why is there an issue with Jamia," a student Ashutosh said, as reported by the Telegraph.
The protest was held by RSS-affiliated ABVP. The protesting students, brandishing saffron flags and placards proclaiming 'Stop the admission scam' and 'Bring CUET', raised slogans demanding the implementation of CUET for all courses. The protesting students have also claimed that PhD scorecard has not been issued by the university yet.
Earlier this month, JMI announced that it will not implement CUET for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses except for 20 courses, citing limitation in time to change the varsity rules, a senior official said. Recently, UGC has also directed the varsity to implement CUET UG from the academic session 2023-24 in all courses.
