The Common University Entrance Test is being conducted for admission in Central Universities from the academic year 2022-23 to reduce the burden on students, universities

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is not based on the CBSE syllabus and it does not put students from other boards at a disadvantage. The information was given by the Ministry of Education in the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) in reply to a question on whether the CUET-UG exam is based on the CBSE syllabus.

Recently Delhi University has announced its first merit list in which 85,000 students have been shortlisted for various undergraduate programmes. Of this, over 71,000 students are from the CBSE board alone.

Replying to a question on whether CUET is based on the CBSE Class XII syllabus putting Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) students at a major disadvantage; and whether Government is planning to make provision for conducting the CUET separately as per the syllabus of both the Boards so as to provide a level playing field to the students of both the Boards, Union Minister of Education (State), Dr. Subhas Sarkar replied that the syllabus is based on general understanding of subject at class XII level and therefore the test examines the students of different boards at equal footing.
“CUET is not based on the CBSE syllabus,” he replied. He also stated that there are no such proposals under consideration for conducting CUET separately.

The minister also informed that in pursuance of the National Education Policy, 2020, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is being conducted for admission in Central Universities from the academic year 2022-23 to reduce the burden on students, universities and the entire education system.
