Delhi University Demands Withdrawal of Education Minister's Letter on 12 Colleges
The Expert Committee report stated that the creation of teaching and non-teaching posts, as well as appointments, were conducted per University of Delhi and UGC norms.
Delhi University (DU) has demanded the withdrawal of a letter issued by the Delhi Education Minister following a detailed report presented by a specially constituted committee. The report, discussed during the Executive Council (EC) meeting, reaffirmed that 12 constituent colleges meet the prescribed criteria to be recognized as integral parts of DU.
The committee, chaired by South Campus Director Prof. Shri Prakash Singh concluded that the recognition of these colleges cannot be canceled. This addresses allegations raised by the Delhi Education Minister in a letter to the Union Education Minister on December 1, 2023.
Key findings of the committee highlighted adherence to recruitment rules and no financial irregularities in the colleges' operations. The report stated that the creation of teaching and non-teaching posts, as well as appointments, were conducted per University of Delhi and UGC norms. Furthermore, the report refuted claims of unauthorized fund appropriation and arbitrary payments, reinforcing the legal and academic integrity of the colleges.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, who suggested the formation of the committee during the December 15 EC meeting, emphasized that any move to disaffiliate these colleges would violate university statutes and harm the interests of students, staff, and the academic community. The report concluded that the allegations made by Education Minister Atishi were not legally valid and should be withdrawn imediately.
