DU Admissions 2014: ECA & sports quota fixed at 5%
Delhi University (DU) has issued guidelines stating that only 5% of the total intake of students would be given admission under sports quota as well as extracurricular activities (ECA) in various colleges of the University. Candidates under this category will be offered admission under two separate categories – the super category and the trial category.
Candidates who have participated in any international sports event will fall under the super category and will be eligible for direct admission. On the other hand, candidates who fall in the trial category will be tested on their strength, endurance as well as their speed.
Trial category students will qualify for admissions under the sports and ECA quota if they clear two rounds. However, this rule does not apply to students applying for admissions under sports such as chess, shooting and archery. Also, only those students will be offered admissions through this quota who have achieved distinction in sports during the last three years in competitions recognised by Association of Indian Universities and Indian Olympic Association.
As part of the sports trial test, candidates will be judged out of 50 marks each. They will also need to submit their sports certificates during the admissions. Candidates must score a minimum of 18 marks in their sports trials for being considered for admissions.
Candidates will have to apply at individual colleges to get admissions under the sports quota. The performance of each candidate applying for sports quota admissions will be judged by a sports admission committee wherein the college’s principle will be the chairperson and the head of department (HOD) of the physical education department serves as the convener. Other members of the committee would include one physical education teacher, one expert nominated by the college from the confidential list given by the DU sports council, one faculty member nominated by the sport council, one regular bona fide sports student representative, one DU sports council representative and one vice-chancellor's nominee as observer.
Names of candidates who have been selected under this quota along with their trial marks, sports certificate marks along with the course in which they have been offered admissions as well as class XII mark sheet need to be submitted to the DU sports council as soon as possible so that this list may be displayed at the University’s website for seven days in order to ensure that grievances, if any, are taken care of.
