DU faculty, officials urge VC to absorb ad-hoc, temporary teachers
DU administration has sent a letter to the Chairpersons of the Governing Body of the colleges for the appointment of the teachers and principals.
A section of Delhi University faculty members and officials have urged the newly appointed vice chancellor for the absorption of ad-hoc and temporary teachers, following a letter sent by the DU administration to its constituent colleges to fill up the vacant teaching posts.
On October 13, the university administration has sent a letter to the Chairpersons of the Governing Body of the colleges for the appointment of the teachers and principals. Delhi University has as many as 846 teaching posts vacant.
While there are more than 20 colleges where posts of permanent principals are lying vacant. The colleges are -- Sri Aurobindo College, Sri Aurobindo College (evening), Motilal Nehru College, Motilal Nehru College (evening), Satyawati College, Satyawati College (evening), Bhagat Singh College, Bhagat Singh College (evening), Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, Vivekanand College, Bharati College, Indira Gandhi Sports College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Rajdhani College, Deendayal Upadhyay College, Acharya Narendra Dev College, Bhagini Nivedita College, Maharishi Valmiki College of Education, Gargi College, Kamala Nehru College, Maitreyi College.
At present, more than 4500 ad-hoc teachers and temporary teachers are working for years in the colleges and the departments of the University of Delhi. As per a letter sent to the Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, some recent experiences for recruitment in some departments were quite painful and shocking, where a whole lot of the ad-hoc teachers found themselves on the roads one fine morning after being removed from their jobs.
“Hence, the solution lies in the absorption of these colleagues as was done in 1977-78 by Temp Ordinance – XIIIA of Delhi University. There had been several such instances of the absorption in the various states too,” reads the letter by some of the members of the Executive Council, Academic Council and members of Finance/court of DU.
Appointment of Teaching and Non-Teaching staff
Earlier this week, the DU administration sent a letter to colleges asking them to fill up vacant posts o priority. The letter states: “In case of Colleges/Institutions wherever the Acting/Officiating Principals arc in position, they need to take immediate necessary steps in filling up the post of Principal on regular basis at the earliest possible extent Keeping in line with the Model Template already circulated to the Colleges/Institutions of the University. An early action in the matter is solicited.”
The letter to VC mentions that the university administration is yet to implement the December 05, 2019 letter of the Ministry of Education on the issues related to the ad-hoc and temporary teachers. “We request you to implement this in letter and spirit,” the letter reads.
These members have also urged to evolve a policy of absorption of the ad-hoc teachers and temporary teachers working in the colleges and the departments.
