DU’s Strategic Plan 2024-2047 Approved, New Medical and East Asian Language Courses to Launch Across Colleges

The University of Delhi (DU) has approved its Strategic Plan 2024-2047 during the 102th Academic Council (AC) meeting. The plan envisions DU playing a pivotal role in a developed India by 2047, while striving to become a globally recognized center of excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.

DU: Vision for 2047

Prof. Singh emphasized that the strategic plan will steer DU towards creating multi-skilled, socially responsible global citizens. The university aims to prepare a new generation of scientists, engineers, doctors, historians, and leaders to meet the nation’s evolving needs. He underlined DU's commitment to excellence, innovation, and an entrepreneurial mindset to drive growth over the next 23 years.

Key pillars of the plan include:

Enhancing student experience through innovative teaching methods and personalized education pathways.

Fostering cutting-edge research that contributes to national and global challenges.

Building stronger connections between the university, local communities, and other institutions.

Collaboration with industries and higher education institutions for mutual growth.

Global impact by strengthening international partnerships, branding, resource creation, and philanthropy.

Prof. Singh noted that the plan is a systematic process that will ensure DU remains relevant, sustainable, and accountable in the future.

Institutional Development Plan (IDP) in Focus

The Vice Chancellor was authorized to finalize the Institutional Development Plan (IDP) after incorporating feedback from AC members. A committee has been formed to review the IDP draft, which will focus on setting clear priorities and initiatives aligned with DU’s long-term vision.

New Academic Programs and Courses

In addition to the strategic initiatives, the AC approved new academic courses to further diversify DU’s offerings:

East Asian language courses will be introduced at Ramjas College, Hansraj College, and Ram Lal Anand College, broadening DU’s scope in international studies. These courses include:

Advanced Diploma in Korean Language (Ramjas College)

Certificate in Chinese Language, Diploma in Korean and Japanese Languages (Hansraj College)

Advanced Diplomas in Chinese and Japanese Languages (Ram Lal Anand College)

The Faculty of Medical Sciences also saw approvals for new medical courses, including:

Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) at the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS)

DM (Pediatric and Neonatal Anesthesia) at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), further boosting DU’s specialized medical offerings.

Governance and Administrative Decisions

During the meeting, the AC also addressed governance issues. The Vice Chancellor formed a committee to engage with the Principal of St. Stephen’s College regarding rule violations, including members Dr. Harendra Nath Tiwari, Dr. Alok Pandey, and Dr. Maya John.

A Blueprint for National Development

Prof. Singh reiterated that the strategic plan is a blueprint for DU's role in the development of India. He highlighted the importance of preparing well-rounded graduates and professionals who will contribute to the country’s economic, social, and cultural progress. This includes ensuring that DU’s education, research, and outreach efforts have a lasting impact on society.
