The two-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Surya Kant issued notices to EFLU.
Congress spokesperson and activist Prof Dasoju Sravan has approached the Supreme Court of India on Judgement given by the Telangana High Court related to the violation of OBC reservation norms by English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU).
Sravan has alleged violations of reservation rules and constitutional rights of OBCs in student admissions and appointments at faculty positions in the EFLU. He has also stated that the Supreme Court has issued notices to EFLU on these violations.
The two-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Surya Kant issued notices to EFLU.
Reacting to this development, the All India OBC Students Association said: “Evidence of a gross violation of OBC reservations in HEIs is in the public domain now. We are hopeful that the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India will do justice to OBCs.”
Earlier, a complaint was lodged with the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) against EFLU for not implementing 27% reservation to OBCs, and allegations of lack of transparency in the recruitment process were also levelled against the university.
Sravan has alleged that EFLU released the recruitment notification for 58 faculty posts during the complete lockdown period and did not follow the rule of reservation and roster. “EFLU ensured that not many candidates applied for faculty posts, thus manipulating the process,” Sravan alleged.
Sravan has claimed that there should be 63 OBC faculty members out of the University Grants Commission (UGC) sanctioned strength of 238 posts in EFLU. However, there were only 25 OBCs working at the varsity.
In January 2021, NCBC asked the EFLU to cancel or withhold the recruitment process until he received a valid and satisfactory reply from the Vice-Chancellor of EFLU for not implementing OBC reservations.
NCBC made these observations based on allegations levelled by Sravan who stated that EFLU should have eight professors, 16 associate professors and 39 assistant professors from the OBC community.
