GGSIPU to start East Campus soon; 600 plus UG-PG seats to be added
GGSIPU is likely to announce the results of various entrance tests soon, following which counselling for different UG-PG courses would begin, it is also starting four B.Tech courses this year.
The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, GGSIPU, is all set to start courses from its newly established East Campus in Delhi. The GGSIPU, formerly known as IP University was shifted from Kashmere Gate in Delhi to Dwarka a few years back is launching B.Tech and B.Des courses from its east campus from the upcoming academic session 2021-22.
Dr PC Sharma, Director, Academic Affairs at the GGSIPU speaking to Shiksha said that the university will add as many as 600 seats from its east campus this year. “The university is also launching some new courses which will add more seats at the undergraduate and postgraduate level like MSc in Packaging,” Sharma said.
The University is also going to announce the results of various entrance tests for courses like BBA, BCom, BJMC soon, informed Sharma. The university is likely to announce the results of various entrance tests soon following which the counselling process for different UG-PG courses would begin. Sharma said that the counselling process will be online and the students will have to register for the same.
The GGSIPU this month postponed the Common Entrance Test (IPU CET) as the exams were clashing with the medical entrance exam, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Undergraduate (NEET UG 2021), which was conducted on September 12. The varsity conducts IPU CET for admission to courses like B.Tech, B.Pharma and BA English.
GGSIPU: To run classes offline-online both
Speaking on the reopening of campus for offline classes he said that few courses which have a large number of students, the GGSIPU is planning to go for the hybrid mode of education with online and offline classes.
Sharma said that they are starting with online and offline classes according to the facilities available, the number of students and keeping other COVID related precautions in mind.
“Right now first-year admissions have not taken place, we are planning to have online classes for UG courses, maybe we will allow final semester students, particularly for practicals on the campus. Wherever lab work is involved we will allow them in batches,” he added.
At the masters level also the university is planning to allow students to return to campus, Sharma said that for courses like M.Tech, where students are doing their projects, they would be allowed to come to the labs.
600 seats through GGISPU East Campus
The university will add 600 more seats by starting a new campus in Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi, and the GGSIPU is going to start its east campus this year. At the newly established east campus of the university, two new schools are coming up, School of Design and Innovation and School of Robotics and Automation. The Robotics and Automation will have four courses with 120 seats in each course. While the university will offer Bachelor of Design courses through its School of Design and Innovation centre and will have 120 seats on offer.
The admission to BTech courses at the east campus will be based on JEE results, the university will start the counselling process soon.
These programs are envisioned and planned to be unique both in terms of curriculum, state-of-the-art laboratories, hands-on training, as well as well-integrated focus on Research and development (R&D), and entrepreneurship; by way of innovative participation/association with the industries and various stakeholders.
As per the University, the entire teaching and research ecosystem of the new campus is being planned to be a hub of innovative ideas and products. The new campus shall house two new schools of studies namely, University School of Automation & Robotics (USAR); University School of Design & Innovation, (USDI) and third an IP Innovation & Incubation Center.
The University School of Automation & Robotics will cover emerging areas like machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, industrial IOT, etc.
GGSIPU admits students based on the national level test like NEET for MBBS courses, JEE for B.Tech, CLAT for LLB. While it also conducts its own entrance tests for courses like BBA, Bcom, BCA and BJMC. The university also admits students in some of the courses like animation based on 10+2 marks but the number of such programmes is less.
