IGNOU Announces Process to Create DEB ID for Students Willing to Enrol for ODL, Online Courses; Details

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has released the guidelines for creating a DEB ID. DEB ID is a mandatory step for students who wish to enrol in an ODL/ Online programme at the university. The university notified that DEB ID shall be created by all learners as per the UGC guidelines. The DEB ID is a unique number which will be provided by the university to each student taking part in the university for Open, Distance Learning and online programmes. 

"As per the directions of the University Grants Commission (UGC), DEB ID is to be mandatorily created by a Learner who wishes to enrol in an ODL/Online Programme. Thus, for admission in any of the ODL/Online Programmes offered by IGNOU, DEB ID is mandatory. Please note that DEB ID is a unique number, and you need to create it only once." Reads the official notification. 

The purpose of the DEB-ID is to ensure that learners are taking admission in the Open and Distance Learning/Online programmes of the Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) which are recognized by the Commission. Students can produce an ABC ID through their Digilocker account.

How to Create DEB ID for IGNOU Admission? 

Students willing to create a DEB ID for admission to IGNOU courses can go through the below steps: 

  • To create a DEB ID, students first have to create an ABC ID from here 
  • Once the ABC ID is created, students have to submit in the box 'R' and follow the instructions to create a DEB ID using the email ID and mobile number. 

     

  • In case any student faces any difficulty, they can reach out to the nearest IGNOU Study Centre or Regional Centre for assistance.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) provides admission to its distance course Bachelor of Education (B.Ed. ) on the basis of merit in an entrance test conducted by IGNOU. IGNOU allows a maximum 5-year duration to complete this degree course. The eligibility criteria for the IGNOU B.Ed. are as follows: Academic eligibility: Graduation and/or post-graduation in any subject with at least 50% aggregate (except degrees in technology or engineering, where you need 55% aggregate). Professional Eligibility: Either be a trained "in-service" teacher in elementary education or have completed an NCTE-recognised teacher education programme in regular mode. Entrance exam qualification: The IGNOU-B.Ed. entrance test.

Yes, you can certainly get admission in BSc course at IGNOU even if you have scored less than 50% in your Class 12 boards. According to the official website of IGNOU, the basic eligibility for the BSc in Biochemistry course requires the candidates to pass Class 12 or its equivalent exam in Science stream with Biology, Chemistry and Physics as compulsory subjects, while admissions to the BSc in Anthropology course require the students to score passing marks in Class 12 .
