JNU is preparing to inaugurate a commemorative tribute wall adorned with the names of 1,040 freedom fighters hailing from various corners of India. Check details here
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) announced that the university is set to unveil a tribute wall adorned with the names of 1,040 freedom fighters across India. Positioned outside the JNU convention center, the wall aims to educate school children monthly, fostering awareness about diverse freedom fighters from various states among the younger generation.
The 10-foot-tall, 60-foot-long wall will display information including the names of the freedom fighters, their lifespan, and their respective states. Adjacent to the wall, pillars featuring the national emblem of India - four lions - will stand on either side. Atop each pillar, a QR code will be positioned, enabling scanning to access audio (mp3), visual (mp4), or written narratives recounting the stories of these revered freedom fighters.
As reported by PTI, Chakra Foundation is overseeing its construction, the wall will mimic an "old file" shape, adorned with marble granite plaques bearing the engraved names of freedom fighters. Positioned at its center will be a statue of 'Bharat Mata,' accompanied by a towering 100-foot national flag. Construction on this tribute wall commenced around 4-5 months ago and is nearing completion. Anticipated to be unveiled by February 2024, the wall stands on the brink of readiness.
As part of the initiative, a tribute wall is being built at 75 different locations across the country including Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Gujarat, Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The project is being funded through donations received by the NGO and the names of the donors and those who supported the project will be engraved at the bottom of the tribute wall.
