The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) will organize a 'Mashal Juloos' on December 23, aiming to protest the proctorial investigations launched against students. Alongside, their demands include the complete withdrawal of any disciplinary measures taken against the students involved. The JNUSU Mashal Juloos will be held from Ganga Dhaba to Chandrabhaga commencing at 5:30 PM.
JNUSU Mashal Juloos
In the Mashal Juloos, students will protest against the following:
- Cease all ongoing inquiry against students by the CPO's office on protest demonstrations and related matters
- Rescind all disciplinary actions against students ordered by Chief Proctor Office in this semester
- Withdraw the Chief Proctor Office manual titled - "Rules of discipline and proper conduct of students of Jawaharlal Nehru University"
- Immediate announcement of JNUSU Elections
Earlier, the JNU administration released the revised CPO (Chief Proctor Office) manual in November drafting stringent measures like penalising protests in select areas of the university campus. The revised manual has thereafter received strong criticism by various student organisations.
The revised JNU CPO Manual underlines penalising with up to Rs 20,000 or even expulsion for staging dharnas within 100 metres of the academic buildings of the university. Furthermore, the manual also states that any "anti-national" act will attract a Rs 10,000 fine.
Signature Campaign
As per PTI reports, JNUSU also said that it will start a signature campaign to ensure optimal awareness on the revised CPO manual among varsity students that has restricted staging students from staging protests at selected areas of the campus.
