Q. What is your take on the implementation of CUET in all central and private universities? And How will it affect the whole admission process?

A. CUET has existed for a very long time, but it wasn't until recently that it gained significant attention and larger space in the admission sector after the government announced it to become a mandatory criterion for admission to the central institution. It is yet to see how it is going to play its part this year and in the coming future. As things become clearer, we can now see that even private colleges can use CUET. Last year, there was some misunderstanding that it was only for central universities and not for any other universities. Students can apply for admission to LPU classes through CUET because LPU has also applied for the exam.

However, we would also be conducting our own LPU Entrance Exam examination, known as LPUNEST 2023.

Q. Are you planning to introduce any new courses or streams?

A. For this year we have introduced new programs of engineering and technologies. Basically, these programs are designed in collaboration with the companies and the industry partners. The idea of these programs is to create the manpower which is required and trained by the industry. These programs would make use of new-age technologies like IoT, machine learning, data sciences, AI and more.

Though we already had these programs running for the last two to three years now with collaboration with the top industries we feel that this has become more relevant and would be more beneficial to both the students as well as industry.

Q. What new initiatives and collaborations the University is looking forward to this year?

A. LPU always believed in quality education. Although the university is just two decades old, it has placed itself among the top universities in the country with one of the largest student bodies. There are almost 5000 students studying in 200 programs at LPU, most of which are across the country. LPU has a strong brand placement and the fact could be reinstalled because of the placements acquired by the students. The record speaks for itself. It holds one of the highest placement records after any IIT in the engineering domain. These factors prove LPU to be a source of Quality education.

 Q. How does LPU stand unique in terms of qualitative education?

A. Industry immersion and curriculum innovation is the most important factor for a student and the university. There wasn’t much creativity in program or business collaboration in the past. But LPU is one of the few universities that is working hard to bring the curriculum closer to the industry requirement. The steps it has taken are-

  1. It has included industry experts as its curriculum-setting committees. Most of the curriculum is designed and vetted by industry veterans.
  2.  It has collaborated with the industry to offer joint programs which are offered by the experts themselves.
  3. The university has created internship opportunities in the industry to help students learn things more closely.

And thus the university has one of the best placement records where the students get recruited under a fair package.

Q. Industry immersion and curriculum innovation are leading university selection?

A. The placement record holds a very important part of any university. LPU has proven its caliber with 600n of its students being selected for packages ranging from 10- 63 lakhs per annum in the past 2-3 years. When many students receive average packages over 25 to 28 lakhs, it is extremely rare and not many colleges outside of IITs can make such a claim. So this clearly proves that LPU is very focused on creating industry-ready individuals and the industry itself is ready to pay a premium to LPU students because of their readiness to solve the problem of the required query from day 1.

 Q. How universities are effectively cultivating a culture of inclusion and diversity?

 A. LPU has created a lot of opportunities for our female students and is also working on providing scholarships to the students with special needs and the ones who excelled in sports. This is one way in which the universities are trying to bring a culture of inclusivity to the university. The students get to be a part of events, clubs and various cultural activities where students from different backgrounds come together and work together. So that creates an environment of inclusivity in the university.

 Q. What skills do you think are required to run a successful startup?

 A. A successful startup is all about having a strong mindset and the ability to work hard sincerely and consistently. And that's something that is very important if you want to run a successful startup. At LPU, we are trying to help our students work really hard. We have a very demanding curriculum and academic requirements. In addition, we are trying to give our students an environment where they can explore their capabilities to manage people and multiple kinds of jobs. There are many events happening in the university and also there are startup schools and clubs in the university that are providing them with support in case somebody is looking forward to it. The university is trying to build resilience and hard work among all the students which in the future will help startups that launch from universities like LPU.

 Q. What steps is the University taking towards improving the research area?

 A. So LPU has set a target to be among the top 200 universities of the globe in a couple of years or the next three years to be precise. For that, research is a very important factor. We have built and invested huge money not only in creating the research labs but also putting a lot of effort into recruiting faculty members and researchers from across the country and the world.  I am very happy to share that the largest number of patents filed by any university after IITs and NIITs are put together is LPU. LPU has one of the largest numbers of patents so it clearly shows the inclination of the university to be one of the most research-intensive universities in the country. The university with one of the largest numbers of patents clearly shows the inclination of the university to be one of the most research-intensive universities in the country.

 Q. Please tell us about the scholarships you offer.

 A. LPU always wants the top students to join the university. And that is why LPU has given merit-based scholarships to a number of students. And we have given almost 100 crores of scholarships over the past many years, and we continue to do that. So if students who score really well on the entrance test, board exams, or in their graduation, can get a good scholarship to get admission to LPU.In addition to the academic-based scholarship, we also give away scholarships on sports and to an individual with special needs. So there are various scholarships provided by the university and there's a special dedicated page. The scholarship details are available on the website.

 Q. How are you planning to increase the number of foreign student enrollment?

 A. LPU has one of the largest numbers of international students studying on any of the Indian campuses. We have close to 3500   international students studying on the campus and we've been able to do that because we are able to create the right environment for the international students to grow. We have created an international student support center and all the teaching and learning process happens in English.

So word of mouth itself is helping us grow the number of international students. And we have special teams who go out market the university in countries around the world. With this, we can keep up the flag of the largest number of international students on any Indian campus. Our target would be for at least 15 per cent to 20 per cent of all our students should be international in every program and we are working hard to achieve that.
