Mazhar Asif Takes Charge as 16th Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia

Prof Mazhar Asif stressed on offering better accommodation, food and safety to the university students during his addressing speech at Jamia Millia Islamia.

Professor Mazhar Asif joined Jamia Millia Islamia as the 16th Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university. The teaching and non-teaching staff met the new VC at his office premises and welcomed him. Prof Asif had the introductory meeting with the deans, registrar and senior officials of the university and later on, paid floral tribute to the former President of India Dr. Zakir Husain and JMI’s founding member Dr M A Ansari at their mausoleums situated on the university campus. He further paid tribute to Brigadier Usman by visiting his mausoleum situated on the university premises. 

While addressing to the gathering at the premises, Asif mentioned his one motto and one goal which is to take university and academics to the highest standing. He emphasised on offering better accommodation, food and safety to the university students in order to make the university among the most preferred institutions in terms of academics, infrastructure and student support. 

Asif asked the staff and the students of the university to provide their support to take Jamia Millia Islamia to a higher level. He further added, “I always welcome criticism but also expect better suggestions and solutions, so come with the problem but also think about better alternatives and solutions so that together we can improve things”.

He concluded his speech by thanking the Jamia fraternity and the Government of India for providing him with the opportunity and entrusting his vision for the university. 

About Prof Mazhar Asif

Professor Mazhar Asif has offered his services as a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University's School of Language. He previously also served as a member of the executive council of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Urdu University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. At Jamia Millia Islamia, he has been appointed as a VC for a period of five years from the date on which he enters his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
