Approximately 1 lakh fresh scholarships are awarded annually to selected students from Class 9. The scholarships are continued in Classes 10 to 12 if students meet the criteria Selected students, who are studying in state government, government-aided and local body schools, are given a scholarship of INR 12,000 per annum.

NMMS Registration 2024: National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) 2023-24 application process, both fresh as well as renewal, is all set to close on December 31, 2023. Eligible and interested candidates may apply for the NMMS 2023-24 on the National Scholarship Portal, i.e. scholarships.gov.in.

With an aim to lower the dropout rate at Class 8, the union government awards the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections. Approximately 1 lakh fresh scholarships are awarded annually to selected students from Class 9. The scholarships are continued in Classes 10 to 12 if students meet the criteria Selected students, who are studying in state government, government-aided and local body schools, are given a scholarship of INR 12,000 per annum.

There are two levels of verification, L1 is the institute nodal officer (INO) level and L2 is district nodal officer (DNO) level. The last date of INO level (L1) verification is January 15, 2024 and of DNO level (L2) verification is January 30, 2024.

NMMSS scholarships are disbursed directly into the bank accounts of selected students by electronic transfer through public financial management system (PFMS) following the direct benefit transfer mode. NMMS is a central sector Scheme. Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than INR 3,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail the scholarships.

The students must have minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
