No DU college gets highest grade in NAAC accreditation

National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC), an autonomous body of University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of top ranked colleges as per grades provided. 

The top scorers among DU colleges are Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) followed by Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), and Hindu College with 3.65, 3.61, and 3.60 scores, respectively.

It may be noted that the highest grade that NAAC provides to colleges is A++ (where score of a college should be between 3.76 and 4) and none of the Delhi University colleges have managed to get that. The grade secured by top three colleges mentioned above is A+.

While the scores and grades given by NAAC are out, the impact it can have on colleges is still unclear.

Grades that NAAC gives to colleges are on the basis of quality status scores. Quality status scores are based on parameters mentioned below:

The scores released by NAAC are valid for five years after which colleges again have to apply for accreditation. In 2012, UGC had made accreditation mandatory for all higher education colleges. In 2014, DU executive council had accepted the decision.
Once an institution applies for accreditation, a UGC NAAC team visits the colleges and assesses their ‘quality status’ by interacting with all stakeholders such as teachers, students, alumni, etc.
