OBC Association urges MPs to raise questions on non implementation of reservation in Agri Varsities
The students association through their letter have stated that their concern has been consistently ignored by the Agricultural Ministry and Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).
All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has sent an open letter to Members of Parliament on implementation of OBC Reservations in the All-India Quota of the State Agriculture Universities.
The letter has been sent with a request to raise the issue of the implementation of OBC reservations in the All India Quota (AIQ) seats of State Agriculture Universities.
The students association through their letter have stated that their concern has been consistently ignored by the Agricultural Ministry and Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE). “It pertains to the non-implementation of OBC reservation in AIQ seats of State Agricultural Universities, which has severely affected the prospects of the marginalized OBC community. Despite raising this issue with DARE and the Agricultural Ministry, we have not received a satisfactory response,” it states.
The All India Other Backward Classes Students' Association (AIOBCSA) has been advocating for the implementation of OBC reservation in AIQ seats of State Agricultural Universities for several years. Stating their communication with DARE and the Agricultural Ministry, the association has stated that the two bodies have repeatedly transferred the responsibility to ICAR, who have stated that they have not received any order or notice from the Ministry to implement the reservation.
The open letter reads: “It is deeply concerning that the Ministry of Agriculture and DARE have consistently ignored this issue, and it is unacceptable that the ICAR has not received any orders from the Ministry to implement OBC reservation. The OBC community is a marginalized section of our society, and they are the backbone of our country's agricultural sector. Denying them equal opportunities in education will have long-term consequences for the sector and the nation as a whole.”
It has requested the MPs to raise questions on what steps have been taken so far to ensure the implementation of OBC reservation in AIQ seats of State Agricultural Universities (SAUs)? Why has the Ministry of Agriculture and DARE been ignoring this issue, even though it concerns a marginalized section of our society?
It has also urged members to ask questions on can the government provide a timeline for the implementation of OBC reservation in AIQ seats of SAUs? What measures will the Ministry and DARE take to ensure that the ICAR receives orders to implement OBC reservation in AIQ seats of State Agricultural Universities from next ICAR admission session 2023?
AIOBCSA has urged MPs to take up this issue in the parliament and demand that the Ministry and DARE take immediate steps to resolve this matter. “The OBC community deserves equal opportunities, and it is the government's responsibility to ensure that they receive them,” says Gowd Kiran Kumar, President, AIOBCSA.
