President Murmu Calls Teachers the Pillars of a Nation’s Development on Teachers’ Day
President Murmu highlighted the need for educators to focus not only on academic excellence but also on developing well-rounded citizens who are sensitive, honest, and enterprising.
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, emphasized the essential role that teachers play in shaping the success of any education system. Speaking at a National Awards ceremony for outstanding teachers, President Murmu highlighted the need for educators to focus not only on academic excellence but also on developing well-rounded citizens who are sensitive, honest, and enterprising.
In her address, the President underscored that teaching is not just a profession but a mission of human development. She urged teachers to identify the diverse talents of students, such as leadership, athletic ability, and social engagement, beyond their academic achievements. “A successful life lies in a meaningful life, and teachers must instill values of compassion, ethics, and service in their students,” she stated.
President Murmu also highlighted the importance of women’s status in society, describing it as a key measure of societal development. She urged both parents and teachers to ensure that children grow up with respect for women not only in words but also in actions.
Referring to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, she reminded teachers of the importance of continuous learning to remain relevant and effective in their roles. “Great teachers build a great nation, and it is through their inspiration that India can become a global knowledge hub,” the President noted.
The National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes skill development, was also a focal point of the President's speech. She congratulated the teachers honored for their contributions to skill development, higher education, and school education, expressing confidence that their efforts would pave the way for a developed India. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary, who were commended for their role in organizing the ceremony.
