SFI Delhi University Protests Against Suspension of Dalit TISS Scholar Ramadas
The TISS administration, however, maintains that the suspension is a result of findings from a detailed inquiry into Ramadas's repeated misconduct and engagement in activities unrelated to his academic pursuits.
In a display of solidarity with Dalit TISS Scholar Ramadas, who faced arbitrary suspension for his dissent, students from Delhi University, led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), took to the streets in protest.
Ramadas, a PHD student at TISS, Mumbai, was suspended after his participation in the historic Students’ March to Parliament and his advocacy for the screening of the documentary 'Ram ke Naam'. The SFI DU condemned his suspension and debarment from campus for two years, citing it as a violation of 'National Interest'.
The SFI highlighted the attempts to stifle debate and dissent within universities and vowed to oppose such actions vehemently. They stand in solidarity with Ramadas and demand the immediate withdrawal of his suspension.
“Similar such rampant attempts to curb debate and dissent of students can be seen in Delhi University as well. The Admin-RSS-BJP-ABVP-Delhi Police nexus is also leaving no stone unturned to stifle voices of students. This nefarious agenda of the ruling disposition will however be fiercely opposed,” SFI said in a statement.
The TISS administration, however, maintains that the suspension is a result of findings from a detailed inquiry into Ramadas's repeated misconduct and engagement in activities unrelated to his academic pursuits.
Despite the institute's claims, student organizations continue to support Ramadas, urging the TISS administration to revoke the suspension.
