The SHREYAS (Scholarships for Higher Education for Young Achievers) scheme is supports SC and OBC students in pursuing higher education. This comprehensive scheme encompasses four central sector sub-schemes: "Top Class Education for SCs," "Free Coaching Scheme for SCs and OBCs," "National Overseas Scheme for SCs," and "National Fellowship for SCs."
- Free Coaching Scheme for SCs and OBCs: The scheme aims to offer high-quality coaching to SCs and OBCs students. This prepares them for competitive exams, facilitating job opportunities in public/private sectors and admission to esteemed technical and professional higher education institutions. The ratio of SC: OBC students is 70:30 and 30% slots are reserved for females in each category.
- Top Class Education for SCs: The scheme aims to support quality education among SC students by offering financial aid. It covers outstanding SC students for education beyond the 12th class, ensuring continuous scholarship until course completion, contingent upon the student's satisfactory performance.
- National Overseas Scheme for SCs: This scheme offers financial aid to select students from various backgrounds: 115 slots for SCs, 6 slots for De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, and 4 slots for landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisans. These slots support pursuing master's and Ph.D. level courses abroad, presently totaling 125 allotted slots.
- National Fellowship for SC Students: The SHREYAS scheme offers fellowships to Scheduled Castes students pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. degrees in Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Under this scheme, 2000 new slots are provided annually (500 for the science stream and 1500 for Humanities and Social Sciences) for candidates who have cleared the National Eligibility Test- Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) by UGC and Junior Research Fellows in the Science stream who qualify the UGC-CSIR Joint Test.
