UGC: 108 Public, 2 Deemed, 47 Private Universities Fail to Appoint Ombudspersons

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released an updated list of universities that have failed to appoint Ombudspersons as mandated by the University Grants Commission (Redressal of Grievances of Students) Regulations, 2023. This list includes a total of 108 public universities, 2 deemed universities, and 47 private universities across the country.
The UGC had previously issued a public notice on January 17, 2024, highlighting universities that had not complied with the regulations. The latest update, as of June 1, 2024, reflects the current status following communications from various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) about their Ombudsperson appointments.
The UGC has reiterated the importance of these appointments for ensuring a structured grievance redressal mechanism for students. Universities listed are urged to comply with the regulations promptly and inform the UGC of their appointments through the designated email addresses.
Some notable universities listed include Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management, and many others across various states.
