UGC Chairman said students will also be allowed to pursue two degree programs simultaneously in physical and online mode.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to allow students to pursue two full-time degrees simultaneously. As per the UGC, students will now be allowed to pursue two full-time degree courses simultaneously from two different universities
UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar has announced that UGC will allow students to pursue two full-time degree programs simultaneously in physical mode. Kumar said that students will now be able to pursue two full-time degree programs simultaneously in the same university or from different universities.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, UGC Chairman informed that UGC has taken a big decision in this regard and it will soon issue detailed guidelines for the same. “To allow this, the UGC is coming up with new guidelines to allow a candidate to pursue two-degree programs in physical mode simultaneously,” Kumar said.
Jagdish Kumar said: “As announced in the New National Education Policy (NEP) and to allow students to acquire multiple skills, the UGC is coming up with new guidelines to allow the candidate to pursue two-degree programs simultaneously in physical mode. The degree can be done from one or different universities.”
Till now UGC guidelines prevented candidates from pursuing two full time degree courses simultaneously. In 2013, an expert committee constituted by the UGC had recommended that students enrolled in a regular degree course should be allowed to pursue an additional degree simultaneously under open or distance education mode from the same or different university.
Later in 2020, UGC allowed students to pursue two degree courses simultaneously in same or different streams, however, one of the two degrees was to be pursued through regular mode and the other through online distance learning (ODL) mode.
