The UGC has stated as per the Digilocker, the current model of data sharing through API integration has not been successful.

The University Grants Commission has sent a letter to universities to upload the correct data of students on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The letter states that the current model of data sharing through API integration has not been successful.

In a letter to all the Vice Chancellors, UGC Secretary Prof Manish Joshi has stated that the National Education Policy, 2020 envisions the establishment of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), a national-level facility that will be a bank for academic purposes with students as academic account holders.

The letter reads: “ABC shall provide a variety of services which include credit accumulation, credit verification, credit redemption, credit exchange, and authentication of academic awards from one program to another giving them the opportunity for Multiple Entry-Multiple Exit.”

It states that as informed by Digilocker, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), the current model of data sharing through API integration has not been successful in uploading the necessary data to ABC.

“I strongly believe that the success of ABC depends on the efficient and accurate uploading of data. Therefore, I am requesting that academic institutes upload data directly to the National Academic Depository (NAD) Digi locker for the successful implementation of ABC,” the letter reads.
