The Chairman of the UGC presided over a meeting that was broadcast live across various social media platforms, such as YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter. During this video conference, he engaged in discussions regarding SWAYAM courses with the vice-chancellors and principals of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
He stated in the meeting that, launched in 2017, SWAYAM offers a wide variety of multidisciplinary MOOCs spanning high school, higher education, and teacher training programs. To date, over 3,000 MOOCs are accessible, with nearly 39.7 million students having enrolled in these courses.
SWAYAM courses are crafted by top faculty members from IITs and IIMs, guaranteeing the highest quality of content. By incorporating these courses into regular programs, educational institutions can significantly improve the quality of education they provide.
Furthermore, all courses available on the SWAYAM portal align with the National Credit Framework (NCF) for online learning, ensuring a standardised credit system. More universities need to participate and motivate their students to enroll in SWAYAM courses.
Credit Transfer Opprortunities With SWAYAM Courses
SWAYAM courses, ranging from 1 to 4 credits, are easily integrable into students' existing programs at their institutions. The UGC allows students to earn up to 40 percent of their programme credits through the SWAYAM portal. Therefore, the heads must promote enrollment in SWAYAM courses among students to ensure they reap the maximum benefits.
How to select and create awareness about SWAYAM Courses?
The UGC has shared the list of courses to all institutions. It's up to the vice-chancellors to inform their deans or department heads and organise meetings with SWAYAM coordinators to spread the word among students. Deans and department heads can suggest which SWAYAM courses to offer. These suggestions can be posted on the university website, so students know they can take these courses through the SWAYAM portal.
