Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the circular highlights that any violation of these regulations will be taken seriously by the UGC.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a stern directive to all higher education institutions, emphasizing the imperative implementation of anti-ragging measures. In a recent circular referencing the anti-ragging regulations of 2009, the UGC has instructed universities and colleges to proactively prevent and eradicate ragging on their campuses.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the circular highlights that any violation of these regulations will be taken seriously by the UGC. The commission has underscored the criminal nature of ragging and has specifically framed regulations aimed at prohibiting this menace within higher educational institutions.

The notice issued by the UGC clearly states that institutions failing to take adequate measures to prevent ragging or neglecting to act in accordance with these regulations, including failing to penalize those responsible for ragging incidents, will face punitive action.

In a bid to intensify anti-ragging efforts, the UGC has urged institution heads to publicize these measures extensively through various mediums. This includes the establishment of Anti-Ragging committees and squads, formation of Anti-Ragging Cells, installation of CCTV cameras in crucial areas, and conducting surprise inspections in hostels.

Furthermore, the UGC has recommended regular interaction and counseling sessions with students, identifying potential triggers, incorporating Anti-Ragging warnings in institution prospectuses and information booklets, and implementing measures like surprise hostel inspections.

To provide immediate assistance, the UGC has shared helpline details for distressed students affected by ragging incidents. Students can reach out to the National Anti-Ragging helpline at 1800-180-5522 (24x7 Toll Free) or contact the Anti-Ragging Helpline via email at helpline@antiragging.in.
