UGC Issues Warning Against 'Unrecognised' University Providing Invalid PhD Degrees in Rajasthan
UGC has designated OPJS University in Rajasthan, as an 'unrecognised' university for failing to comply with the commission's regulations regarding the awarding of PhD degrees. The commission has asked and warned students, and parents not to take admission to PhD programmes offered by the unrecognised university. Check notice here
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a notice naming a university which is not awarding PhD degrees as per the commission's regulations. As per the notice issued, OPJS University (Private University), Rawatsar Kunjla, Near Sankhu Fort, Rajgarh (Sadulpur), Jhunjunu Road, Churu, Rajasthan - 331303 has been classified as an 'unrecognized' university due to its failure to adhere to the regulations set forth by the commission concerning the process of awarding PhD degrees.
The commission has debarred the university to accept new students under its PhD programme. The UGC has also asked the students not to take admissions in these PhD programmes offered by this university as it will not be recognised. The university has been disqualified as, according to the UGC's notification, it failed to provide the necessary information or show up for the meeting. The committee added that it will make recommendations on ways to reduce violations.
UGC Notice Regarding 'Unrecognised' University
"In the first phase of the process, 14 universities were asked to submit the information/data about PhD degree awarded during the year 2018 in a format prescribed by the Committee. It has been observed that inspite of repeated requests and a show-cause notice, OPJS University (Private University), Rawatsar Kunjla, Near Sankhu Fort, Rajgarh (Sadulpur), Jhunjunu Road, Churu, Rajasthan -331303 did neither provided the required information nor attended the meeting. This non-adherence by the University has been viewed very seriously by the UGC."
The UGC established a standing committee to regulate if universities are adhering to the process and conferring PhD degrees in compliance with UGC regulations. During the initial stage of the procedure, 14 universities were required to provide information regarding PhD degrees granted in 2018 in a format that was specified by the committee.
