UGC launches Malaviya Mission to train 15 lakh teachers across colleges, universities

Launching the mission on the occasion of Teachers Day, Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan said that the capacity building under the Malaviya Mission will be mapped to a credit framework to ensure career progression pathways to educators.

On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the University Grants Commission has launched the ‘Malaviya Mission—Teacher Training Programme’. The scheme seeks to train 15 lakh teachers across various universities and colleges in the country.

Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan launching the mission stated that the Malviya Mission is being launched to ensure continuous professional development and building capacities of 15 lakh teachers of HEIs through 111 Malaviya Mission centres across India in a time-bound manner.

Dharmendra Pradhan said: “The Malaviya Mission is an endeavour to make our educators future-ready with a deeper understanding of Indian values. It aims to improve the quality of teachers’ training, build leadership skills in teachers and help realise the goals of NEP.”

The minister informed that capacity building under the Malaviya Mission will be mapped to credit framework to ensure career progression pathways for educators. We remain committed to investing in our teachers as well as empowering them.

Malaviya Mission
Envisioned as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, The scheme of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching aims to address shortcomings relating to teachers and teaching in schools, higher education institutes and technical education institutes using the best international practices for excellence.
It aims to create and strengthen the institutional mechanisms for training teachers. Teachers will be given refresher courses and retrained in generic skills, pedagogic skills, discipline-specific content upgradation along with ICT and technology-enabled training.

Over six lakh trainees have undergone professional development training under this mission.
