UGC Removes Pragyan International University, Ranchi, from Recognized List
The decision comes after a series of non-compliances and a repeal of the university's establishment act by the Jharkhand government.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice announcing the removal of Pragyan International University, Ranchi, Jharkhand, from its list of recognized universities. The decision comes after a series of non-compliances and a repeal of the university's establishment act by the Jharkhand government.
As per the UGC Notice, Pragyan International University was established under the Pragyan International University Act, 2016, notified by the Government of Jharkhand. Subsequently, the UGC included it in its list of universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, on August 3, 2016.
However, the university failed to comply with UGC's inspection requirements, ignoring multiple requests for information, telephone calls, and emails. Consequently, on June 19, 2024, the UGC formally sought clarification from the Jharkhand government about the university's status.
The Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand, passed a resolution on March 20, 2024, repealing the Pragyan International University Act, 2016, through the Pragyan International University (Repeal) Act, 2023, notified in the Jharkhand Gazette. The resolution highlighted that the university had failed to commence academic operations since its establishment in 2016.
In light of these developments, the UGC has officially removed Pragyan International University from its list of recognized universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act. Stakeholders, including students, are advised to take note of this decision.
For further information, the UGC has shared a copy of its communication with the Special Secretary of the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand.
