UGC Set Framework for Universities to Conduct SWAYAM Course Examinations
Universities have been provided with detailed guidelines and a user guide to register on the SWAYAM University dashboard, helping them benefit from this framework.
In an effort to enhance the integration of SWAYAM courses into the higher education system, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) have announced a new framework allowing universities to conduct examinations for SWAYAM courses. Universities have been provided with detailed guidelines and a user guide to register on the SWAYAM University dashboard, helping them benefit from this framework.
As per the UGC letter, this decision follows a series of state-wise SWAYAM awareness and outreach virtual meetings held from October to November 2023, and April to May 2024, along with two online meetings chaired by the UGC Chairman on February 8, 2024, and March 5, 2024.
These meetings, attended by Vice-Chancellors, College Principals, SWAYAM Coordinators, and NEP SAARTHIS, focused on adopting SWAYAM for credit transfer and addressing concerns such as re-examinations, examination fees, and course re-runs. The proposal to allow universities to conduct SWAYAM course examinations was further deliberated during the 24th SWAYAM Board meeting on March 5, 2024. The board agreed that universities may now hold these examinations, provided they have adopted SWAYAM courses for credit transfer in line with the UGC's 2021 regulations. This move is aimed at encouraging more students to earn credits through SWAYAM and providing them with re-attempt opportunities.
Previously, end-term proctored examinations for SWAYAM courses were conducted exclusively by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). With this new framework, students can now choose to take their SWAYAM examinations at their respective universities.
Universities have been provided with detailed guidelines and a user guide to register on the SWAYAM University dashboard, helping them benefit from this framework.
