The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar welcomed the fresh batch of BTech students virtually. As many as 249 students from 18 states have joined the 2021-2025 batch, with the highest enrolment from Maharashtra (62), Rajasthan (49) and Gujarat (38). This is followed by Andhra Pradesh (17), Telangana (16), Uttar Pradesh (14), Madhya Pradesh (12) an Bihar (10), among others.

Gender ratio at IIT Gandhinagar improves

As per a report published in News18, the gender ratio of BTech students is improving at the institute, with around 21 per cent of girl students joining the Institute in various disciplines compared to around 19 per cent female students in the 2020 batch.

The reason for increase in the number of girl students enrolment in BTech courses is because of the IITs increasing the female quota. The new batch has two OCI students as well, one from the US and another from Canada.

The report said the IIT also kick-started its flagship Foundation Programme in the online mode. While addressing the new BTech batch online, the institute Director, Sudhir K Jain, said, “We prepare students for life and not just for job so that they can take up future challenges with confidence.”

The foundation programme 2021 is a holistic development programme with a mix of activities. Various sessions on team building, time management, stress management, well-being, cyber criminality, cooking and engineering, design engineering, leadership, inclusivity, academic integrity, social awareness, venture capital, introduction to sketching, emotional intelligence and creative learning will be held during the five-week programme.
