IIIT Nagpur adds 240 seats to BTech courses

The institute has also started four new branches of engineering – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics and Internet of Things (IoT).   

The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Nagpur has increased 240 seats in BTech courses for the 2022-2023 academic session. Apart from this, the institute has also started four new branches of engineering. The four branches are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics and Internet of Things (IoT).  

As per a report published in The Times of India, the branches of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics will start under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering while the Internet of Things (IoT) will start under the Department of Electronics and Communication. 

Dean in-charge Ashwin Kothari said, “Till 2021, we had 373 BTech seats in first year, now the number has increased to 637 from the current academic session.” Last year, there were 214 seats in IIIT Nagpur’s Computer Science and Engineering department. The number has now increased to 421. Also, there were 133 seats in Electronics and Communication department in 2021. The number has now increased to 216. 

IIIT Nagpur plans to set up own IT park

IIIT Nagpur started its operations from BSNL Regional Telecom Training Centre, Seminary Hills in 2016-17. The institute was shifted to its permanent campus in April 2021. The institute is planning to set up its own IT park in two years from where software companies can operate their units. Besides, it also has plans to build a community centre of international standard.
